Yacht Blog – Superyacht Architects, Hoek Design
Since its first edition in 2009, the Palma Superyacht Cup has received the support from many of the world’s best Shipyard designers in the Superyacht industry. VHR’s Yacht Blog will take you back to the emblematic 2011 edition – the year of Hoek Design.
The 2011 Palma Superyacht Cup was the best edition for Hoek Design. Not only were they celebrating their 25th anniversary and sponsoring the event, but they also had a record number of Superyachts at the Palma Superyacht Cup.
This year, 2017, VHR is sponsoring the Superyacht Cup in Palma de Mallorca. The event has always welcomed large armadas of Superyacht and J-Class yachts to compete in a 3-day regatta. Baltic Yachts, Pendennis, Vitters Shipyard and Claasen Shipyard are just a few familiar names whose designs can be seen on the water.
Hoek Design took over the 2011 Palma Superyacht Cup for their 25th anniversary
Of the 11 boats designed by Dutch experts Hoek that have featured in the Superyacht Cup, 10 were present for the 2011’s regatta, 9 racing in Palma for the first time; the circumstances were so unique that a “Hoek class” was created for both of the 2011 and 2012 regattas.
Created in 1986 by Andre Hoek, Hoek Yacht Design is one of the world’s most famous yacht designers. Designing a variety of traditional Dutch leeboard, J-Class and motor yachts, Hoek Design has established a highly-respected name for themselves within the yacht industry.
Shipyards such as Royal Huisman, Claasen Shipyard, Holland Jachtbouw are associated with the talented team of designers, naval architects and engineers at Hoek Design.
Bloemsma’s “Drumfire” the oldest yacht, sailed to victory in the Hoek Class of 2011, she’d previously sailed with Shamoun at the 2010 Palma Superyacht Cup.
Hoek Design and the Palma Superyacht Cup – an endless story
Since its historical 2011 edition, Hoek Design continues to build both its presence and reputation; in 2012 edition, a second Hoek Class was organised for the Palma Superyacht Cup, this time won by Atalante.
With several of the Hoek design boats competing in the Americas Cup Superyacht Regatta in Bermuda, 2017 will see two Hoek designs competing in Palma; Atalante TC 90 and Atalante TC 127. Read more about Atalante TC 90 and TC 127 by Claasen Shipyard on our Yacht Blog.
