The Captain’s Ride 2017: Day One
Posted - 6 November, 2017
Join Danny Brooks, Managing Director of VHR and former Australian Cricket Captain and sports legend Steve Waugh in The Captain’s Ride, down under in Australia.
After arriving in Tasmania for the group’s last training ride, Danny reports on the Captain’s Ride from across the world exclusively for VHR.
The Captain's Ride Diary: Day One
Danny reveals of the first day’s riding, ‘Day One was incredibly tough. We started at 05:30am and it was 3 degrees when we left Hobart (the capital of Australian state Tasmania) so we needed a fair few layers to stay warm.
‘On top of the cold, the distance of 173kms was quite a push, especially when we had to climb 2,200 vertical metres! The highlight of Day One was a 10km descent at the end of the day, where I notched up a top speed of 77.4kmh.’
Why We’re Riding: A Great Cause
The Steve Waugh Foundation’s (SWF) mission is to enhance the lives of families and children affected by rare diseases. SWF provides life-changing support and an improvement in quality of life for children and young adults (ages 0-25).
All donations will directly contribute to specialised equipment, treatment, research, medical grants and items that will improve the quality of life for both the children and families affected by rare diseases.
Former Olympian Daley Thompson also joins Danny and Steve Waugh for the Captain’s Ride 2017.
